July 17-24, 2018 Loloma Mission
Bilikiki has returned to Honiara after hosting this year's Loloma medical mission in the Russell and Florida Islands. 17 volunteer doctors joined us on this trip to give free medical care to the villagers. The clinics were set up in Marulaon, Pepesala, and Louna in the Russells, and in Olevuga and Tulaghi in the Floridas.
The doctors covered different medical areas including pediatrics, opthalmology, women's health and education, general medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Every morning we set up the clinic in a different village, while the dive deck onboard the Bilikiki transformed into a dental clinic with three dentists. All the doctors soon had their hands full with patients young and old lining up to see them.
It was a highly successful mission with hundreds of patients seen during only five days. Reading glasses and sunglasses were handed out, check-ups were made, blood pressures were measured, countless teeth were pulled or filled, and plenty of medication was handed to cure all kinds of things. The Bilikiki crew worked hard to carry all the equipment and supplies ashore every day and also helped as translators to overcome the language barrier.
It was a fantastic trip of a different kind that certainly made a difference in many people's lives. We can't thank all the doctors enough for their passion, their helpfulness and enthusiasm to make this year's Loloma Foundation's medical mission once again a complete success. We are looking forward to seeing you again next year!
