The Bilikiki is back from an awesome 10 days of diving with a photography group from Backscatter. We were treated to lectures on photography by Jim Decker and lessons on how to make our photos look better in Lightroom by Erin Quigley. Everyone had plenty of amazing dives to put their newly learned skills into practice.
We had some luck with the sunlight plus a great underwater model (thanks Pato) while diving Leru Cut, Custom Cave and Mbulo Caves. There were loads of barracudas at Mary Island and with clear blue water and beautiful reefs it made for some stunning wide angle photos. Everyone got to practise their macro shooting with pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs, disco clams, countless blennies and gobies, mantis shrimp, jawfish, ghost pipefish and all of the Solomon Islands' nine species of anemone fish all playing the part of models.
The shore trips between the dives, for some carving shopping and to see village life, were also a great opportunity to learn more about the Solomon Islands, meet the local people and take some wonderful top side photos.
A big thanks to all of our guests on the trip for being such a great crowd and to Jim and Erin for the lessons and good company, we hope to see you all again soon. An equally big thanks to Pato, Fernando and all of the Bilikiki crew for looking after us so well for 10 days. It was an amazing trip.
Cheers
Kellie
