April 25-May 2, 2024 Trip Report
Once again Bilikiki is back in Honiara after one week of beautiful diving in the Solomon Islands. This time, we were joined by 15 dive enthusiasts from the United States, Canada and Australia, some of them living in the Solomons for many years. We had the weather on our side for another trip with mostly calm sea conditions and lots of sunshine.
The trip started in the Russell Islands, and after an overcast morning, the sun came out just in time for our dive in Leru Cut. The streaming light beams inside the cut and the beautiful, fishy reef on the outside wall left a memorable impression on our divers. Big smiles on everyone's faces! The WW2 dumpsite at White Beach was a favourite for many, both exploring the trucks, ammunition and coca cola bottles from this past era and seeing the critters that now call it home. Pipefish, mantis shrimp, archer fish and nudibranchs all waited to be discovered by our guests. Mary Island also delivered impressive dives with huge schools of big-eye jacks and barracudas in the blue, joined by big bumphead parrotfish, grey reef and a curious blacktip oceanic shark. All the while, the undersea volcano Kavachi was delivering the perfect soundtrack with loud bangs and crackles all day long! Our divers were thoroughly impressed! What a spectacle! The other underwater highlights on the trip were plentiful, eagle rays, mobulas, sharks, barramundis, seahorses and nudibranchs, to name just a few. There was a bit for everyone!
Topside, the villagers of Karumolun again gave us a memorable performance of their custom dancing and singing, and the floating fruit and vegetable canoe markets are always a stunning sight to see.
We would like to thank all our guests for joining us on this trip, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. All of this was made possible by the hard working and tireless Bilikiki crew, so as always tagio tumas guys, you are the best!
Lukim iu next time,
